IT 417 - Fundamentals of Cybersecurity Organizations have many regulatory and compliance issues to address. Cyber security professionals are responsible for implementing the technical controls that meet these requirements. This course provides the technical knowledge and hands-on lab experiences required to secure an organization’s IT systems. Focus areas include fundamentals of cyber security, access control, networking and communication security, understanding attacks against systems including malicious code, controls and countermeasures, system monitoring and analysis, system recovery and response, IT systems audit, cryptography review, and legal issue surrounding cyber security.

Prerequisite(s): IT 204 and IT 405 .
Outcomes
- Evaluate Cybersecurity goals and best practices as it relates to hands on certifications.Investigate attacks against systems that may cause a security breach and determine defensive controls.
- Demonstrate and discuss technology relating to various Information Technology (IT) security aspects.
- Evaluate various auditing data from logs to business processes to measure and determine security posture.
- Build and assess an Information Assurance plan demonstrating the knowledge of controls via forecasted case studies and scenarios.
- Demonstrate the use of firewall technologies by modifying the system and testing controls.
- Construct and assess network security components within network architecture to implement a layered defense.
